OverviewThe Overview shows your startup disk as one ring. Gray is what you keep, color is what MacClearings could move to the Trash after you review it, and purgeable and free space are shown apart.

BreakdownBreakdown starts from the numbers macOS reports, the same ones System Settings shows, and explains each part of the disk in a sentence. Whatever MacClearings can't see is shown as a number, with the usual reasons, not hidden.

MacClearings Map: a treemap of the home folder with a list of its biggest folders and an inspector explaining what the selected folder is.

MapThe Map draws any folder as a zoomable sunburst or treemap, measured by the space it really takes on disk. Hover or select a folder and the field guide says what it is, which app made it, and whether it comes back.

MacClearings Find: a search for "report" across 3.4 million scanned files, with kind, size and date filters and 4,266 matches found in 30 ms.

FindFind searches the names of everything MacClearings scanned as you type, and lists matches largest first. Filter by kind, size and date, or use the filters on their own to list, say, every file over 1 GB.

Choose what goes, review it, and move it to the Trash, knowing it can come back.

MacClearings Suggestions: developer files, caches and logs grouped with their sizes and checkboxes, and 14.5 GB staged for review.

SuggestionsSuggestions runs 28 rules over your Mac and explains each one in plain words. Only things that are safe to lose and don't come straight back are checked for you, so app and browser caches start unchecked.

MacClearings Duplicates: 2,425 groups of identical files holding 17.3 GB of extra copies, with the newest copy in each group marked Keep and build output tagged.

DuplicatesDuplicates compares the files MacClearings scanned by size, then by their first and last 64 KB, then by a full SHA-256 hash. You choose which copy to keep, and at least one copy of every file always stays.

MacClearings Applications: 72 apps using 99.3 GB including their support files, with an inspector showing one app's size, its CPU and memory while it runs, and the files it keeps elsewhere.

ApplicationsApplications lists every app with the files it keeps elsewhere on your Mac, so the size you see is the real one. Uninstall moves the app and its leftovers to the Trash after you review them, and the Login Items tab turns background items off and on.

MacClearings Compress: a drop area for videos and photos, HEVC and HEIC settings, and the largest videos on the Mac ready to add to the queue.

CompressCompress makes HEVC copies of videos and HEIC or JPEG copies of photos, saved next to the originals, with a size estimate before you start. The originals are never replaced. When you're happy with a copy, you can stage the original for review.

What changed

Undo any cleanup, and see whether the space you freed stayed free.

HistoryHistory lists every cleanup MacClearings has made. Undo puts a whole cleanup back and Put Back restores one item, for as long as it's still in the Trash. Space that lasts shows how much of what you freed stayed free after a day, a week and a month.
