Descriptions
One line
MacClearings explains what’s filling your Mac in plain words and moves only what you review to the Trash, with Undo.
Short
MacClearings is a disk analyzer and safe cleaner for macOS. It breaks the “System Data” macOS doesn’t explain into named items, says what every folder is and whether it will come back, and moves only what you’ve reviewed to the Trash, with Undo for every cleanup. It then measures each cleaned place again after a day, a week and a month to report how much space actually stayed free.
Long
When a Mac’s disk fills up, System Settings shows a colored bar and a large, unexplained “System Data” figure. MacClearings starts from the same numbers and explains them: apps, files, app data in the Library, local Time Machine snapshots, purgeable space, and what it can’t measure without Full Disk Access. A built-in field guide says what each folder is, which app made it, whether it regrows and what happens without it.
To make room, MacClearings offers rule-based suggestions with a plain reason for each, byte-for-byte duplicate detection that always keeps one copy, app uninstalls with leftovers, and smaller HEVC and HEIC copies of large videos and photos. Nothing is ever deleted: everything goes to one review list, then to the Trash, and every cleanup can be undone from History. MacClearings is made by Chris Williams, costs $25 once, and runs on macOS 15 or later.
