The short version: the MacClearings app doesn’t collect anything about you or your files. This website collects the least it can to sell the app and, only if you allow it, to count visits.

The MacClearings app

MacClearings has no account, no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reporting. Scans, cleanup rules, duplicate hashes, snapshots, the Cleanup tray and your cleanup history are stored on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/MacClearings, and never leave it.

The app connects to the internet only in these cases:

  • Its own updates. When you check for updates, or if you turn on automatic checks, it downloads the update feed for MacClearings. The request includes the app’s version and your macOS version, like any update check.
  • The Updates tab in Applications. When you open that tab, MacClearings reads the update feed each of your other apps publishes, to compare versions. Nothing is downloaded or installed. If you never open the tab, this never happens.
  • License activation. When you activate, the license key you enter is checked with the license service, along with a one-way hash of your Mac’s hardware ID so a key can be tied to a Mac. The hardware ID itself never leaves your Mac.

Full Disk Access, if you grant it, lets MacClearings read more folders to measure them. What it reads stays on your Mac.

This website

This site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web server, it receives your IP address and browser details with each request; Vercel keeps short-lived server logs to run and protect the service. We don’t use them to identify you.

Visit statistics (only with your consent where required)

If enabled, the site uses Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to understand which pages are useful: pages viewed, how visitors got here, rough location from the IP address, device type, and in Clarity’s case how the page was scrolled and clicked. They set cookies. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked first and nothing loads unless they agree; everyone else can opt out with the browser’s content-blocking settings or a tracker blocker. The choice is remembered in your browser’s local storage. The MacClearings app never uses these services.

The launch list

If you leave your email for the launch, it’s used once, to tell you MacClearings is out. It’s stored in the site’s server logs and our email list, never sold or shared, and deleted on request.

Buying

Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. They collect your name, email address, billing country and payment details to take the payment, calculate tax and send your receipt and license key, under their privacy policy. We receive your name, email address, country and order details so we can support you and send license keys. We never see your card number.

Your choices and rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to support@macclearings.app. If you’re in the EU, the UK or another place with data protection law, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. We keep order records as long as tax law requires, and launch-list emails until launch or until you ask us to remove them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too, and anything significant is noted in the changelog.

Questions: support@macclearings.app. MacClearings is made by Chris Williams.
